Why I Get More Anxious After I Fall in Love

Why do some women feel more anxious after they fall in love? This blog by Catherine Josephine reveals the deep connection between love, nervous system dysregulation, and unhealed attachment wounds and offers a path to safe, sacred love through feminine healing.
Why I Get More Anxious After I Fall in Love
by Catherine Josephine | The Love Priestess™
At the beginning, I feel nervous. But not undone.
I wonder, “What does he want from me?”
I scan for danger signals.
I stay in observation.
I practice discernment.
But then… I start to feel good. I relax. I enjoy myself. I start to open.
And that’s when it happens.
Not when I first meet him. Not when we start texting. Not even on the first few dates.
The anxiety comes after. After the connection. After the comfort. After my heart starts to move towards his.
And I panic.
Not because he did anything wrong. But because something inside me whispers:
"Now it’s real. Now you have something to lose."
Most people think anxiety happens before love. But for women like me, it comes after.
After the hope. After the softness. After the body starts to feel safe.
Because that’s when the nervous system wakes up and says:
“Last time we felt this… it didn’t end well.”
You think you want love. And you do. But your body has been trained to fear it.
You didn’t learn this from a man. You learned this from a family system that made you earn affection. That made love conditional. That teased you when you were vulnerable and trained you to manage other people’s moods just to feel safe.
So when a man arrives who feels good to your heart… he activates the fear that lives beneath it.
This is why:
-
You start overanalyzing texts.
-
You obsess about what he’s thinking.
-
You pull back or cling tighter.
-
You think: “Something’s off.” But it’s you who feels off.
Because intimacy doesn’t feel safe.
What no one tells you is this:
You weren’t wired to chase. You were trained to.
You weren’t born to control. You were taught that love meant staying ahead of the pain.
But love is not a threat. Love is not a performance. Love is not a ticking clock.
Love is a frequency. And it softens you only when your body finally believes:
"I am safe to receive."
And that is the real work.
That’s the journey I take my clients on:
From fear to embodiment.
From performing to presence.
From anxious love to anchored love.
If you’ve ever felt what I just described, you’re not alone. And you are not too much. You are simply awakening from the spell of survival.
Let’s rewrite the story together.
If love feels like a storm instead of a sanctuary, you're not broken — you're remembering what safety feels like. Let me help you come home to yourself.
